Recently a small promotional tool that gives the current temperature and ultraviolet index (UVI) level has been sent out to all schools and early childhood centres across the country. This tool has not been calibrated so it may not be giving an accurate UVI reading. The Cancer Society recommend you check the UV index online http://www.sunsmart.org.nz/uvi to get an accurate reading to take the appropriate SunSmart action. Read More »

Telecom NZ has provided the Cancer Society of New Zealand with funding to supply sunsmart hats to low decile (1-3) schools that apply to become a SunSmart school. Schools meeting the eligibility criteria will be supplied with one hat for each child in the school. As we only have a finite supply of hats schools will need to show how the provision of hats for all students will be sustainable in the long term.
